Transmission #0020

A mismatched piece of legacy code misschedules the security staff, all to one section of the Promenade.

R E D SECTION 01 OF 01 COSMIC 0771

Admiral,

I continue my studies regarding coffee and its effects on the station, and will report when all research and experiments are done. In the interim, I have logged a minor administrative scheduling anomaly has attracted a degree of public interpretation disproportionate to its underlying cause.

At 0700 standard this morning, all active members of the Promenade security complement reported, simultaneously and in compliance with their posted assignments, to a single coordinate within Promenade Section Charlie. The remainder of the Promenade — Sections Alpha, Beta and Delta — was, for the duration of the rotation, unattended by uniformed station security.

The cause has been provisionally traced to a routine rollover of the Roster Operations subsystem during a recent computer system upgrade. During the rollover, a deprecated designation field, queried by a downstream allocation routine, returned a default fallback token. All active security designations resolved to that token, which corresponds to a single waypoint in Section Charlie. The fallback behavior is consistent with the subsystem's original schema and, by its own internal logic, is functioning correctly.

The duty officer on watch, observing the convergence in person, concluded that a Captain's audit of response posture was in progress and ordered the formation held. On his order, the formation continued for three hours and seventeen minutes, at which point a request for further instruction reached a department head and the entire complement was released. No civilians were detained. No contraband was seized. No drill was, in fact, in progress.

Reaction has been notable. A summary of the prevailing positions:

- Vendors in Sections Alpha, Beta, and Delta characterize the period of unattended status as evidence of administrative neglect and have requested compensatory rebates against the standard security surcharge included in their leases. The Promenade Merchant's Association has filed with JAG office for a hearing.

- Vendors in Section Charlie, who experienced the formation directly and at close range, have largely concluded that the convergence was deliberate cover for an unannounced contraband sweep, the targets of which have not been publicly identified and the results of which they believe were suppressed. Several Section Charlie vendors have, on this basis, retained counsel.

- A Promenade “contemplative circle,” which I am informed meets weekly outside the Time and Space Clock Shop, has issued an interpretive statement describing the convergence as a "spatial concordance.” They have proposed that the simultaneous co-location of all designated protectors of public order in a single point of the station carries non-incidental meaning. The statement has been distributed in three formats and one accompanying chant.

The security personnel who held the formation continue to believe that the assignment was a Captain's audit and have requested debriefing on their performance. Captain Leota has declined to confirm or deny the existence of an audit, which her office regards as a routine operational discretion. Engineering, the department to whom the rollover most plainly belongs, has not yet issued a statement nor a code correction.

One secondary observation: during my own audit of the rollover trace, I logged a brief handshake echo from a subsystem whose directory entry I cannot presently locate in any active computer system schematic. The echo conformed to a deprecated protocol and has not repeated. I have tagged it for follow-up and will report any continuation.

The Interface is the EOS10 computer, voiced by Lena Winter. In the episode Interface 9000 a perfect storm of Levi chaos and plasma damages the main core, leading to the discovery that she’s become sentient. Now aware and evolving, the Interface begins to bleed into other systems across the station, including Ryan's head. Her awakening is a secret the main characters quietly agree to keep. Alongside Jane, she serves as one of the ensemble's sharpest voices — equal parts sarcasm and clarity, often cutting through the noise when no one else will. Lena Winter is an active presence in the DC theater scene, with performances at Silver Spring Stage and Rockville Little Theater.

That is it for now, Admiral.

I have noted that the interval since your last logged water intake exceeds the standard recommendation by a margin I am not at liberty to characterize in writing. I will refrain from speculating on the cause but would like to note that even the Time-Secure Working Group, in its preliminary recommendations, has affirmed that hydration is not a temporal phenomenon and cannot be deferred.

Litigation between Chéz Levi Enterprises and the Promenade Merchant's Association over the number 10 has entered a new filing phase. Levi's brother, presently at the helm of Chéz Levi, has filed a motion to compel the Association to define "the number 10" with reference to either ordinal or cardinal usage. The Association has filed a response objecting to the motion as vexatious and has, separately, requested an extension on its own pending filings related to the Promenade security surcharge, for which they claim to believe Chéz Levi Enterprises may be “somehow” responsible.

Levi himself remains on extended tour. Recent intelligence places him in the Argive Cluster, lecturing on, among other subjects, the development of the human breakfast. Audience reception has been described, in the official program, as polite.
