Section 14: $110,000 committed, $255,000 to go

We’re nearly a third of the way to fully funding our Section 14 documentary. Here’s where things stand and how you can help close the gap.

We have news on Section 14, our first documentary.

Thanks to a group of early supporters, we now have $110,000 committed to the film in contributions, in-kind donations and services. That’s nearly a third of our $365,000 production budget, and it means the work is already moving: research, interviews and filming are under way.

It also means we have $255,000 left to raise to finish the film.

Section 14 tells the story of a square mile of tribal land in the heart of Palm Springs, where city officials burned and bulldozed the homes of a Black, Latino and Indigenous community in the 1950s and 60s. In 2024, Palm Springs became the first city in the country to fund reparations. Our film follows the six-decade fight to get there.

Every contribution goes directly to research, travel, interviews and production.

There are two ways to give:

  • Tax-deductible: Section 14 is a fiscally sponsored project of the International Documentary Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so gifts made through the IDA are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
  • Directly to Planet M: if you don’t need the deduction, giving directly saves fiscal sponsorship fees, so more of your gift goes to the film.

Not in a position to give right now? Sharing this post or the development trailer helps just as much. The more people who know this story, the sooner we can bring it to the screen.

Thank you to everyone who has already stepped up. We’ll keep you posted as we get closer.
